Our Vision

We’re a passionate group of individuals brought together by a shared experience aboard the incredible tall ship, S V Tenacious. This majestic vessel, built in the late 1990s, has carried over 20,000 disabled and non-disabled voyagers on countless adventures across the globe. The ship’s ethos of inclusivity resonated deeply with us, and we were determined to bring that same spirit ashore.

That’s where cycling comes in. We discovered that cycling provides the perfect platform to promote inclusivity and break down barriers. It’s an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and it’s a fantastic way to explore the beautiful UK countryside.

We organise group rides that bring disabled and non-disabled cyclists together. These rides are designed to be challenging yet achievable, fostering teamwork and camaraderie.

We collaborate with local cycling charities to provide access to a wide range of adaptive cycles, trikes, and other equipment, ensuring everyone can participate.

By creating a level playing field on our rides, we challenge perceptions and show what can be achieved when people work together towards a common goal.

Our roots in the tall ship community have instilled in us a deep understanding of the power of teamwork and the importance of supporting one another.

We’re committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

We believe cycling is more than just a sport; it’s a way to connect with nature, build friendships, and discover new possibilities.

Our goals are three-fold:

1) Demonstrating the possibilities of mixed-ability team

2) Raise awareness of the S.V. Tenacious, the only tall ship designed and built by and for a mixed-ability crew.

3) Change perceptions of disability

Our Adventures

We helped David Bainbridge our wheelchair using team member and Abi Bubb who has a physical disability affecting the muscles in her arms and legs, to scale the heights of Snowdon. The challenge demonstrated how a mixed ability team could work together in difficult conditions, to achieve the seemingly impossible

Race The Ship an Accessible 185 Mile Bike Ride

This wasn’t your average bike ride! Over five days, the cyclists faced scorching heat, challenging hills, and even a few punctures along the way. But with incredible resilience and camaraderie, they pedaled on, showcasing the power of the human spirit to overcome obstacles.

A mixed-ability cycling team cycled 92 miles from Barry Island to Gloucester Quays from October 11-13, 2024. Their journey, traversed scenic landscapes and challenging terrain, showcasing human endurance and inclusion.

The ride is about more than just cycling, it’s about proving that anyone can achieve extraordinary things, regardless of their perceived limitations.

Inspired by the tall ship Tenacious, our mixed-ability cycling team embarked on a multi-day ride from Barry to Gloucester. We visited the docked ships Lord Nelson and Tenacious, showcasing inclusivity and raising awareness for accessible sailing. Despite challenges, we embraced the “can-do” spirit of Voyage Crew aboard Tenacious, proving that with adaptation and teamwork, anything is possible.
