Want to hear about an incredible journey of determination, teamwork, and pushing boundaries? Look no further than the “Race The Ship” adventure! This inspiring challenge saw a team of cyclists race against the tall ship S.V. Tenacious from Ipswich to London, all in support of the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

This wasn’t your average bike ride! Over five days, the cyclists faced scorching heat, challenging hills, and even a few punctures along the way. But with incredible resilience and camaraderie, they pedaled on, showcasing the power of the human spirit to overcome obstacles.

“The idea for ‘Race the Ship’ was to create a fundraising challenge that would be perceived as difficult for anyone. Then, by emulating voyage crew aboard Tenacious demonstrate that a mixed-ability team can overcome challenges by working together ashore.”

Day 1: Friday 8th September

Saw the ” T-Shirt Twins,” Lauren and John, face a tyre mishap – a puncture right on the valve stem! Thankfully, with a little help from our support crew and some trusty technology, they were back on track in no time. The team powered through the heat, eager to reach their destination. Already, the importance of collaboration and support was shining through!

Day 2: Saturday 9th September

Brought more sunshine and miles, with Team Cyclists making a pit stop at The Turks Head pub in Hasketon. The friendly pub owners kept our riders hydrated and cool in their shady beer garden, proving that true community spirit can be found even in the most unexpected places. This highlights the welcoming community spirit they encountered along the way.

Day 3: Sunday 10th September

The challenges continued on Day 3, with hills and scorching temperatures testing the cyclists’ endurance. But this determined team wasn’t fazed! They tackled each obstacle with smiles and camaraderie, taking breaks to avoid the midday sun and allow Tenacious to catch up. Proving that a determined attitude can conquer any terrain.

Day 4: Monday 11th September

Saw Rosemary join the team, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm. Navigational challenges around Royston’s waterways proved tricky, but a delicious lunch (and perhaps a celebratory drink or two) kept spirits high.

Day 5: Tuesday 12th September

The grand finale! While plans to meet Tenacious under Tower Bridge were scuppered, the cyclists set their sights on a thrilling rendezvous at the Thames Barrier. With adrenaline pumping and determination burning, they raced towards the finish line.

And the winner is… Team Cyclists! Congratulations to all the riders and participants who made this epic adventure a resounding success. Their journey embodied the spirit of tenacity, teamwork, and overcoming challenges, proving that with a little grit and a lot of heart, anything is possible.
